    Default Removing the egr !

Was snooping around on a BMW forum the other night,
and one chap with a 530d had removed his egr valve and just
capped it off ! he was giving some other guy some advice
on cleaning them, but he said his engine had run far better
since doing away with his ! can this be done on the Vecy ?
and if so, what would the outcome be ? would it do the DPF
any damage ? it would slow the demand down for replacement
    valves i think ! !
    cheers

The ECU would be looking for values to come back from activating the EGR, if it cant see any values or values are out of range it would kick up the spanner light. Only way would be to reprogram the ECU to tell it there isnt an EGR but this would have to be specially written by vauxhall as there is no setting on tech2 to deactivate it as far as i know.

dont know about capping off but they are prone to failure due to clogging up ,its worth taking it off to clean not forgetting to clean the cavity on the head that's what normaly blocks and stops the valve from working!, ps i note your local?i may b wrong is that pooley lane in your profile pic?

Nice one m8, so if you you blank the valve off, but keep the
valve in place, the ECU will ( should ) be fine ! i should think
most people suffer minor egr problems on a day to day basis,
but never really get the valve fixed untill it stuffs up completly !
if you do blank the egr, you should get more consistant engine
    performance,
    thanks again for the info
    cheers

The only real way to get around it without errors would be to set it up so you have blanked the inlet on the engine but you will need to plumb the egr to dump waste gas direct into the exhaust rather than back in. I did more research sine that post and couldnt justify the cost for little if any gain
