    Default lane changes

whats your opinion on indicating to return to the left after overtaking? I think its unneccessary as you should be doing it anyway and other road users should be expecting you to return to the left anyway. Whats your thoughts?

personally I think it is necessary. Indicators are used to signal your intentions to other road users, and if your intention is to come back to the left lane after overtaking, you should indicate as such.

it depends, if there is loads of cars or rush hour then yes, indicate, but 3 am and one car on the road, dont bother i d say.

As lilangel said depends on road conditions/traffic

Should always do it. It's warning the other driver of your intention.

I would say do it, but if I remember rightly its not required to pass your test, as the car being over taken has to give way.

I was taught not to indicate on the return as it could be confused for a signal to take an exit/left turn

If your meant to return then you should always expect the car over taking to return unless they are obviously going to quickly over take another car.

Depends how tight I am returning. If I'm well up the road I'll not bother, if I have to shuffle in tight then I'll indicate.

IMO it is inadvisable to 'expect' other drivers you do what they should. I see no harm in indicating your return to the left after overtaking. As long as you cancel the indicators. Once you get used to them the Vectra's one-touch/three flash indicators come into their own, as they are ideally suited for lane change signalling. I see it also as good road manners.
