Eek Motorway thieves steal central reservation

Just found this on Company Car Driver News!!

German cops are looking for thieves who stole a mile and a half of the central reservation from a busy motorway.

The thieves made off with more than 20 tonnes of the metal strips from the A6 motorway in Vierheim near Frankfurt.
Police said they must have spent hours dismantling the 500 four metre strips of metal that made up the stretch of the central reservation.
They said the gang must also have used specialised equipment to take the strips apart and then move them.
A police spokesman said: "We are puzzled how the thieves were able to escape with their load without anyone noticing.
A large truck with a lifting device would have been needed to transport all that metal.
"So far we have not been able to find a single witness who would have seen probably a large number of people with a huge truck moving parts of a motorway's central reservation. "Repair work is likely to mean long delays on the route and is likely to cost more than 20 times the value of the scrap they stole

If it was over here I could belive that the council removed it and forgot that they did and lost the crash barrier.

This is quite easily done in reality. All you need is to look the part and NO-ONE will even notice you at all, as the details prove.

If the truck looked like a motorway maintenance truck, then why would anyone give it a second glance when they're rushing past??

It's amazing what they'll nick isn't it. Just round the corner from me, all the man hole covers were stollen. And, may they rot in hell, they stole all the brass plaques from the local crematorium...

As part of a one year upgrade route scheme in Cumbernauld, paid for over two years, a program of improvements started at the end of 2007
The first phase was to replace all the old plastic signs with reflective metal ones
The second phase was to replace all the yellow street lights with white ones, as is now required
Just as this phase came to end all the new signs had been stolen!
The third phase is about to commence, which finishes off the electrics for the street lighting, but I suspect the wiring has been stolen as there has been no progress within the last two weeks and a further new set of relay boxes has been installed!

The Braehead Parapet replacement has also commenced, with its ever-changing road layout!
However, this too has not escaped the phantom thieves
Already three sets of road signs have been stolen, which caused severe confusion on Friday morning as traffic was diverted on to a closed road resulting in oncoming traffic on a 50mph dual carriageway!

On the M8 a full set of road signs were stolen last year in the Baillieston area
This resulted in a small number of drivers being reported for speeding in a 60mph zone, but there were no signs and so all the cases were dropped
