    Default Back Pain

I tend to suffer from lower back pain. Well I bought one of those "Tens Machines", from Lloyds chemists, and they do acctually get rid of the pain, it was well worth the £15, I can recomend any one who has back pain to try one, they are good for muscular pain too, at first it seems strange sensation when the machine starts to work, but they seem to be very effective

I borrowed one of these once and yes they work well, but have you experimented with it?.
I held the connectors with my fingers on full power and talk about torture , but at the time it was a laugh.
Use this to get your own way when you get NO answers.

VV. I copied this from a site, it should give you the answers to your question.

    How do TENS machines work?
Transcutaneous means 'through the skin'. TENS machines deliver small electrical pulses to the body via electrodes placed on the skin. TENS machines are thought to affect the way pain signals are sent to the brain. Pain signals reach the brain via nerves and the spinal cord. If pain signals can be blocked then the brain will receive fewer signals from the source of the pain. We may then feel less pain.

TENS machines are thought to work in two ways.

When the machine is set on a high pulse rate (90-130 Hz) it triggers the 'pain gate' to close. This is thought to block a pain nerve pathway to the brain. This is the normal method of use.
When the machine is set on a low pulse rate (2-5 Hz) it stimulates the body to make its own pain easing chemicals called endorphins. These act a bit like morphine to block pain signals.

They have 8 functions (well the one I have has) and you can set the strenght of the pulse and there are 8 settings for the "pattern" ie how the pulse is sent.

I don,t think it would work for stress. I have had a good read of the instruction,s and it doesn,t mention it,s use for stress, only removing pain.
