    Talking Cakes or Biscuits?

    is this all about?

    linky

These bits in particular made me giggle:

chocolate biscuits are subject to standard-rate VAT and chocolate cakes are zero-rated.
The European Court of Justice agreed that a teacake is a biscuit
....HM Customs acknowledged the error, despite another European legal case which had already ruled that Jaffa cakes were cakes and not, as they had been classified, biscuits.

Definition of a biscuit, softens as it ages.
Definition of a cake, hardens as it ages.

So, no more confusion between cakes and biscuits.

Nice to know that HM Customs are worrying about the great cake/biscuit debate. Rather than stressing about drug running and illegal arms importing.............

Same old story I'm afraid, it's a lot easier to catch illegal cake and biscuit runners, they don't move as fast due to the weight
Despite the cost of living it still seems popular!

You don't think that Customs would take something to court if it was going to cost them do you?

Just an aside - HM Customs no longer exists. A lot of their staff moved to SOCA, then they were taken over by the Inland Revenue to form HMRC, and then Jacqui Smith announced last week that all of the uniform staff are being transferred to UK Border Agency.

Its a bigger issue than you think, after working for a cake manufacturer and a biscuit manufacturer the main debates on lots of new products are around the cake/biscuit is it is'n't it theme LOL.
It got too much for me so now in the fruit juice business BIG LOL (and they pay better).!!!!!!!!!!!!

But surely now the debate is whether it's a fruit or a vegetable?
