    Exclamation Handbrake - Recall

I've just been informed by my local dealer, that there is a recall for the handbrake. Not sure whether this applies to all Vectra C's, but mine a 53 plate 2.0 DTi.
I saw something on Watchdog a while ago regards the handbrake releasing itself. But I always leave it in gear.

    Guy's,

Do a serach on the forum!!!!!

VOSA recalled all Vectra C-'s from 2002 onwards due to a campagin that gatherd pace when 'Watchdog' started to look at it.

After a few months of denial, VX announced that they would replace the faulty part as a gesture of goodwill.

As a result in due course all registered owners will be contacted by VOSA to contact thier nearest dealer and get a recall FOC.

I'm also informed a free replacement car should be provided yet I would'nt hold me breath!!!!!

Are they going to give free driving lessons for people with a problem too? You know, teach them to leave car in gear as you're supposed to?

I wouldn't say supposed to, its common for people to do it, but not essential.

If they have admitted a problem and willing to fix it then fair enough

According to VX it is . I take it they ain't sent you a sticker yet?

Mine was already on the car when I picked it up. (57 plate)

There's loads of threads about the Handbrake. The guy that was on the Watchdog programme makes an appearance on this thread.

I notice my own veccy Nov.2006 is subject to at least 3 recalls according to the recall site, so I'll probably get it done when I get an oil change at 30,000. (I prefer oil changes every 10000, not cheap though)

Regarding the hand brake issue, I did once have the hand brake release itself for some reason a few seconds after getting out of the car after parking and saw the car move a couple of inches. Luckily, I always leave it in gear as you should anyway, and the car was on a level road. Its never happened since. They do recommend that you dont press in the button when applying the hand brake, but I have always depressed the button on every car I've had, possibly because I assumed it would reduce wear on the ratchet. I suspect they probably fit a slightly stronger spring.

Just been to the VX main dealer today regarding another problem and they informed me there is a recall on the Handbrake and replaced the spring under warranty. The Dealer said to always pull the handbrake through the ratchets (something I never do).
This will explain why my 07 plate SRI has rolled away on two occassions in the last month!!
