    Default Insurance Dodgers

This is for anyone with either experience or who work in the force.
If I told you that there was someone on your patch that is uninsured, can you do anything about it?

This 21 year old seems to get away with driving loads of different cars because he keeps writing them off! He doesnt have his name on any comprehensive insurance as he can't afford it and drives cars around that he picks up from the scrappers! The police aren't doing anything about it in the area even though there has been hundred of complaints about his reckless driving. Any help appreciated. Obv knowing he is uninsured I don't want my car to be involved in an accident with him.

I did the first time. They caught him and they said do you have insurance and he said yeh I think so. Anyway, they phoned up his grandad and asked him and somehow on the side of the road was able to bail him out of 6 points or the fine. Apparently they were told he was on his grandads insurance even though he (grandad) is 3rd party. I don't know of many insurance companies who will even insure under 25s on other cars under comprehensive anymore anyway. So I really don't understand. He wrapped one round a lampost 2 weeks ago and police didnt even talk to him. 'Haven't got enough time'

I would speak to the force traffic dept mate. You will find that they will probably have a designated team to tackle uninsured / unlicenced drivers.

This is the new name mate.

Local beat bobbies are usually run off their feet, and traffic have the technology to be able to catch this cretin out. ANPR and the like..... 'computer says you are lying.....'
    Great when that happens.

Only a few thousand more uninsured cars to go then our insurance premiums may start to go down,......

The man with the new name is right just ring your local police and ask to speak to the traffic dept and pass on the reg - number.

When he changes car ring the police again and pass on the new details there's nothing worse that been hit by uninsured driver

Police are trying to catch up... Do you have the details of your Safer Neighbourhoods team? They'll probably have a little more time to be able to deal with him

Jenny Jones, Road Safety Ambassador for the Mayor of London, said:

"The police are doing more than ever to end the cowardly crime of hit-and-run driving, by clamping down on the number of illegal drivers in London. It is terrible that drivers are leaving people for dead who believe they are beyond the law. The sad reality is that the drivers' failure to stop is part of a well-established pattern of behaviour by drivers who often have no insurance or registration. That is why more and more communities are asking for their local police to take action against bad and illegal drivers."

In October 2007, the Metropolitan Police launched Operation Reclaim which gave all officers the power to seize uninsured vehicles, and those being driven other than in accordance with a licence.
