Default help - 1 wiper packed in

    Hi guys,

To cap a very pants 3 weeks was driving home from work and just went to head 30 miles out to my grans to check in on her only to find my passenger wipers not working.

When the wipers are off at the stalk if i get out the car and try to move them manually the driver one wont move but the passenger one can be moved full sweep by hand. Yet if you operate as normal from inside the car only the driver one works.

Any ideas? i thought a fuse but surely that would affect both?

    thanks in advance.

Sounds like the wiper linkage to me.

Happened on my old tatty Punto before, I just put a blob of super glue around the edges and never had a problem again. Obviously, I'd suggest a proper fix for a Vectra, ha.

So common in fact that the AA when you call them out have some fudge fix for it to get you going again by the side of the road. Happened to me about 2 years ago, he told me he gets called to loads of Vectras where the linkage breaks.

I believe it was a recall item (not sure) i had it replaced at the time under warranty , the dealer seemed to be aware how common the fault was

yeah they do it under warenty, but not a recall as there all gonna break, they use uprated ones now as the ball joint rusts and simply falls off.i do so many you wouldnt belive it...honest

Go and get a plastic pull through cable tie, normally get packs of 100 for next to nowt. Pull the plastic sill on the car back so you can see the linkage,a small joint(looks a bit like a ball joint) will have worn and worked apart, put your fingers underneath the dropped bit, place the joint back together, now while your holding the joint in place, put the cable tie around, pull through the one way locking bit on the end of the tie and GENTLY adjust,so the cable tie holds the joint up but DOESN'T prevent it from moving back and forth.
Such a solution held mine in place in all weathers for a fortnight till it was fixed under warranty.
And i did it myself when mine went in torrential rain on the M50

On mine, the central pin came adrift from the motor arm. A quick touch with the welder, some copper grease in the ball joints and all has been well for well over a year.

There is LOADS about this failure on here.
