Default rattle? whilst car ticking over. 1.8 petrol

    as above,

i have a 1.8 sxi and noticed a rattle? from drivers side under the bonnet. hard to tell but it seems to be coming from around the auxillary belt area, alternator, air con pump or belt tensioner?

anyone else had this or if anyone can help.

    much appreciated.

    kev.

As Glenboy says its most likely the belt tensioners etc.

Whats the age/mileage of the car? If so it may be worth getting the cambelt done.

cambelt done last year, 64,000 miles as of now.

had a mate have a look last night with me and he did the screwdriver test on the alt, air con and tensioner. he says it might be the tensioner as it was the one making the gravely noise, the others sounded fine and quiet.

gonna take the belt off later today and start the car to see if the noise is audible then that will give me a better idea.

    thanks,

    kev.

    UPDATE

took the belt off this morning, fired the car up and....................
    noise still there, PANIC.

rang the main dealer up and told them the problem, they asked me to bring it in so they could listen to it even though they were busy and fully booked up.

took the car and the service manager came out with me to have a listen, first thing he said was 'could be the water pump' but to be on the safe side he asked me to leave it with them so they could squeeze it in the workshop for a butchers.

so the car maybe there over night so they can order any parts for tomorrow to get it fixed.

so fingers crossed and everything else you can cross for lunchtime tomorrow that i get my beast back.

    SIGH SIGH
