    Default Jerusalem

One of the best hymns ever and now banned for being too nationalistic.... Time to emigrate, perhaps?

What on earth is this country coming to?

I thought you were going to say something about the place, not the hymn.

Personally, I quite like it, nationalistic or not. But hey, we have to have all national pride removed at birth these days.

Hang on a flippin minute...................that is ridiculous!!! The words are beautiful - it is about a legend that Jesus once came to England - hence the fact that it mentions 'England' - how the heck can it be too 'nationalistic'?!?!?!

    How about.......
"And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's (or any other generic country's, to avoid offence)mountains green" - HONESTLY!!!

I am also stunned by this little gem from the news article.

"Meanwhile, St Margaret's, in Westminster..........has refused to allow the hymn in the past because its clergy deemed the "dark satanic mills" discriminated against people living in the city"

    Oh dear..........

Exactly - they probably thought that it would infringe the human rights of some disabled (sorry - movement impaired), dwarf (sorry - person of restricted growth), gypsy (sorry - travelling folk), immigrant (sorry - migrant worker). Actually I always thought that the "Dark satanic mills" discriminated against the fine people of Lancashire and Yorkshire........

Apologies if there are any of the people reading this who fit into the above category but I needed to make the point. No offence (or infringement of human rights) intended. Please don't sue me.

Blake and Parry are as much a part of British Culture as Elgar and Vaughan Williams and the others.

Definitely time to go back to Switzerland.......

I really don't understand, I am 23, I love the song. The only reason I didn't have it at my wedding is because its being used too much.

I think the Dean of Southwark is discriminating against our own faith and should be retired from office.
