I think you can just remove the bolt from the suspension arm towards the middle of the car, but it will be a lot easier with the wheel off. Someone will correct me with the right terms in a minute

Using an 18mm spanner and an E18 socket, undo and remove the bolt from the bottom suspension arm at the rear of the hub. Place a jack under the arm as when you take the bolt out the arm will be pushed downwards at agreat rate of knots by the spring. then slowly lower the jack, If the arm doesn't drop fully, leave the jack in place with a very small gap between the jack head and the arm and lever the arm down. Once free, push the arm right down allowing enough room to remove the spring. With hand tools on your drive, you're looking at no more than half an hour per side really. HTH

Anyone reading this that has AFL'S or xenon headlights fitted bear in mind the rear axle level sensor for the lights is very close to the N/S spring. It mounts on to the bottom arm and if you forget to disconnect it it will break when the bottom arm is pushed down to remove the spring.

Original heads up from Beavis which saved me some grief this weekend when fitting the Koni's.
