    Default Help with brakes please!!!

    Hi all,

I am looking to upgrade the brakes on my saab 9-3 aero... It comes with the 314mm brakes as standard.... what do I need to upgrade them to the vxr 345s... part numbers also needed please...

secondly I want to fit the vented rear discs etc to my vectra... can someone please confirm exactly what I need as I currently have the solid rears... I have been told that I dont need the rear callipers but im confused as to how the wider vented discs will fit in the stock callipers... help! part numbers and approx cost would be appreciated...

Wouldnt bother getting vxr brakes, they are made by ap racing and are about £1700! Not sure about the rear brakes but i know you need pads and caliper holder things (Dunno what there called). Probably the pads are not as thick or the disc isnt much thicker than the solid one

Rear pads are tiny anyway, maybe the caliper just opens up enough to get the vented disc in?

For rears, the calipers for 292mm rears are a different one to the 278mm that will be on yours. LH is 93181406, RH is 93181407. There's also a specific carrier listed for use with ventilated discs - 93172189

    Fronts - VXR calipers are LH - 93188026, RH - 93188027. You'll need different carriers as well - 93188029

im confused... quote fron DRINKY..."All V6 engined veccy's have 292mm VENTED rear discs and its a simple mod to do all you need are new discs and caliper carriers as the calipers and pads are the same i did this to my 2.2 DTi as well as the 314mm fronts and it's made a HUGE difference"

As Rushy said, PM Drinky then. The part numbers for the calipers fitted to cars with 292mm kit are definitey different to the calipers fitted to cars with 278mm kit - but as Rushy said Drinky may have found a way to get around it.

Note: The calipers 'may' be the same physical size - from what Drinky has said - but they may not be the same internally i.e. they may not apply the same power. I'd hazard a guess that would explain the different part numbers, the 292mm calipers maybe having different internal hydraulics to apply sufficient force to the larger 292mm discs.
