    Default EGR

Been to the stealers today after having spanner light on and emmissions light, told me the EGR Valve was gone/faulty, informed there was a 4 week back order, is this correct?

Can any further damage be done if I continue to drive it?

I what way would you consider it to be a pain in the butt to drive, I have not really noticed too much difference, does it get worse eventually?

Mine was undrivable. No power then bang head for the hills. The "lag" was catastrophic.

Dealer gave me a loan car for the 10 days it was in.

    1) Mine went in last week with excessive smoke on start up and lumpy idle
    2) Told was a faulty EGR, they claimed to have cleaned it, updated software and checked oil
    3) Told me they had ordered EGR anyway and to see how it went
    4) Was fine for 1 day!
    5) Next day smoking again
    6) Booked in to be looked at again, told they could do in a weeks time
    7) Today rang to see if they had EGR as it's due in on Wed
    8) Told part on back order
    9) Asked what about driving the car while faulty reference any further damage.
    10) Told to take it in for a check again on Wed, if still found to be EGR they will put me in a Hire car until part available - Hope it is a vectra or equivalent

    ****** Brilliant isn't it!!!

Why is there such a back order on these valves, surely they are still fitting them to new cars and should have them in stock.

OR, do they realise there a dropped Bo**ock with the existing valves and are re-manufacturing the valve.

Is there anything that can be done to the EGR Valve to help it function properly e.g. clean out.

As you peeps are aware there a back order on these parts, more significantly why is there such a wait for this part?

Jon, what part of the EGR is failing? I can't see how the valve could fail mechanically (except the spring breaking). If it's just a case of cleaning the valve because it isn't seating correctly or has jammed then I can't see what the problem is? If the electrics when then yes but the valve is so simple. I dismantled the one from my 1.9 and I would just stick it in a bath of heavy solvent (Gunk springs to mine) then scrub it with a tooth brush and then soak it in an oil bath before refitting.

I'm just scratching my head over how this can be such a problem, if they clog up then it shouldn't be a problem to clean them.

the part of the valve which is causing the greif is the parts located in the solenoid body, hence the need to clean the parts as detailed in my previous posts. when you tap the insides of the solenoid out you will the the amount of corrosion on the parts and this is preventing the solenoid to "fire" the pin thats pushes the sprung mechanism in the body of the valve, i dont think you need to try a work out why it happens as that is our job at vauxhall, i was purely passing on some info, albeit unofficial to try and help you guys out! simply chucking in a bath of solvent etc isnt going to give it the thorough clean it needs. also the reason for the corrosion i am led to believe is from condensation build up.
