    Question Family Car - Advice required

    Righto -

    As we have our first child on the way - we need to change the missus' car for something a little more practical.

    Would normally have an idea on which car/ model - but family cars are quite new to me

    Members with babies/ families and have good experience with different cars would be good.

    So, please can you give me some ideas of what cars are out there that meet the following:

    * 6 - 12months old.
    * 5 Doors
    * Excellent Safety/ NCAP rating
    * Practical - good storage and boot space
    * Petrol upto 1800cc - economy not that important
    * Special editions/ something a little different would be good.
    * Budget between 10K > 14K

    So what cars fall into this category please? All advice welcomed.

    Regards, Matt

    Indeed, a vectra design would fit nicely in that bracket, you could also afford a 2.2 petrol (similar/better economy than the smaller 1.8) and i reckon you'd even get a 1.9 150 diesel which would thank you in the long run. I say design rather than SRI for a couple of reasons, rear windows are electric rather than windy (with an off button in the front!), there's a blower in the back for keeping kids warm/cool, and i reckon it's less likely to get nicked than an SRI, which i imagine is a royal pain if you have kids!

    Thanks Chaps,

    should have known that the answers would be Vectra biased!

    Something smaller than a Vec I'm afraid - easier to wash too

    The Renault Scenic sounds interesting. Though I know that Renault are a nightmare for service and parts costs.
