    Default Vecta Battery Help

    OK first off i have 1996 vectra b 1.8,

    The Problems is put i new battery on my car about a week later no charge in the battery what so every so ever so i put the battery on charge put it back on my car,car worked fine about 2 days later Dead again, so i went to the Scap yard and borught yet another battery work ok for 2 weeks now its dead again Please help its doing my head in,is there a way to test the alternator?? Thanks

    marky....you have got a drive belt fitted to your alternator should be visable, check to see if it's still there. Get a multi meter and test the battery see how many volts you getting should be around about 12/14 volts. then start engine and re-test battery should now be about 14.5 up over. HTH

    ALSO....

    you have a continual drain on the battery.... either one of two ways..

    either a light/amp/stereo is still on when the car is being left, draining the battery OR..

    You have a failed Diode pack in the alternator letting current leak back to earth..this won't affect the charging voltages, so it will still appear to charge okay..

    It's deffo one or the other of those
