Default Changing gearbox oil on a 2,0 DTI

I understand that there is no drain plug for changing the gearbox oil. Any tips on how to do this another way. I would like to put in a synthetic oil, now that it has nearly done 100K.

The dealers say the gearbox takes sae 80 mineral oil for any top ups. I say that this is undoubtedly the cause of many of the gearbox problems posted here. A car of this size and power should have a synthetic oil. A VW mechanic friend said that "gearboxes that are sealed for life" have synthetic oil and a magnet at the bottom to catch the swarf. He suggested a plastic tube put down the "level hole" and a pump to suck it out. This would be a bit fiddly and how does one know when the tube has hit bottom?

Assuming that I managed to draw out the oil, does anyone know the correct grade?
