Default Just what I don't need

Isn’t it amazing how when you think life is getting a little easier it turns around and kicks you where it hurts?

To help us over this bad period Yvonne has been working a lot of shifts at a local restaurant and I said I would give her a lift over last night and then pick her up later. As my car was out on the drive I thought I might as well use it. The restaurant is only 10 mins away and about half way there a car went passed in the opposite direction.
    BANG!
Something hit the window screen making a 10p sized hole “oh gosh” said I (something like that) and we continued on to the restaurant.
Due to the size of the hole I knew it had to have been a large stone and on the way back home it started to spread. I phoned my insurance and the screen will cost me £50. This morning I went out and found I have a small dent and scrape on the bonnet where the object must have hit first. So now I need a new screen and some work done on the bonnet.
As most of you know I’m trying to sell the car and this is something I don’t really need. So a question for you …
Do I get the bonnet fixed and sprayed or leave it as is and know some money off the car?
Personally I would rather get it all sorted but I thought it worth asking you lot.

Indecently I reported it to the local police as I think the damage is too much for a stone and believe either someone in the car going the other way has thrown something out the window or maybe someone at the side of the road was chucking stuff at passing cars.
Just hope whoever it was stops doing it before someone gets injured.

Bummer Cyb - just what you need at the moment - NOT!

As for the bonnet, I'd be inclined to get those ChipsAway/Dent Magician type guys round. I bet you they'll cost less than what any prospective buyer tries to knock off because of it.

EDIT: Seeing the pics you've now added, it does look unlikely that it was a stone kicked up off the road. I've never seen damage on a bonnet like that from a stone kicked up. I may be wrong but I think you're right with your suspicions.

How bad is the damage to the bonnet? Could you get away with using the touch up pens? Do you have a Chips Away bloke in your area, maybe they could sort it out cheaply for you?

I'd get it fixed mate and sell the car as 'mint'.

Most people (in my opinion) won't even look at a car that needs work.

I must say you're very calm about it. I'd be kicking doors off their hinges etc!!!!

It is possible to do what's called a SMARTRepair on small damaged areas, essentially stands for "Small/Medium Area Repair Techniques". They basically just repair that area, and you can avoid having the whole bonnet resprayed.

Have a word with someone like ChipsAway, they should be able to prety much make it vanish and not hurt your wallet too much! Normally these things cost less than £100 to do which would be less than the amount someone would want off the car if you sold it damaged...

Spikey -nice idea but the damage is too much for that m8

The chips away might be worth giving a call but I'll have to pay at least £50 for the screen and if I can get both done with just paying my £100 excess it might be worth having a spray shop handle it. I also have my no-claims protected.

Alex - had a lot of bad things happen lately after a while you learn to live with it, no point in losing your temper it won't change anything.

Incidentally the RAC tell me the real cost of the screen would be £369!! -Just glad I'm not paying that

In light of your no-claims being protected, i'd go ahead and get it all done right under insurance, ok it'll cost you the £100 excess but if I was buying the car i'd be looking to knock you down over £500 to cover the cost of repairs, so in the long run you'll be better off.
