Vectra C 1.8 sri - temp guage problem

Hi all,

I was driving back on the m40 last night and noticed that the temp guage keeped goign from 80 right down to 0! Was a bit worrying, as it did this throught the journey mving up and down between 0 and 80

Is this a big problem?????????

I can't see it cavitating that much, sounds more like a sensor fault.

I have the 1.9 CDTI (150) and mine does that too most of the time, a could drive a hundred miles without temperature gauge moving from cold ! Then next start up runs at 90 ish then will drop back to zero !
Got me stumped aswell like !!

When its cold mine is always very low esp on the motorway and only goes up when idling in traffic. Do not lose any coolant at all and no other issues so just think its normal. Not had the up and down like yours so I would have thought maybe a sensor fault or thermostat. Give the sensor a clean on the contacts as it might be a bit dirty.
