Thumbs down Spring mod only done to one side FFS !

To cut a long story short, when my car was about 18months old it went in to the dealer to have the spring mod sleave fitted due to banging and the usual symptoms from the front. After taking it to the dearler three times I gave up.

The nearside has always made the "boing" noise now and then so I had a look today and put some spray greese in the strut pan as a desparate attempt to stop it.

I thought I may as well do the same to the drivers side, when I started I realised that the sleave was on the coil on this side. I checked and found that they have only done the mod to one side !!

It was done under warranty and I would have thought that both sides should be done.

Should I go to the dealer or shoot an email off to VX to explain the situation ? the car is now well out of warranty but the half job they did was under warranty.

Sorry for the long post but I can't believe it !!!

I would consider doing it myself, is there any possible way to do it without the strut coming off the car ? or is taking it off and using spring compressors the only way ?

I have used compressors once before a long time ago !

take it off any use compressors..the best ( and safest way) to do it.... you only need to get the spring out of the pan, not off the strut, just so you can slip the 'mod' round the tail end of the spring..

don't forget to clean out the groove it sits in as well..

    I see, thanks

Looks like another job to join the list, I was intending on changing the drop links today but couldn't get the old ones off. I tried tons of different sockets and ring spanners but don't have one to fit it lol

That will explain why my 17 and 19 " sockets wouldn't fit time for some now anyway

Well, for now I put plenty of white spray grease on the side without the spring mod last week. It's gone from constantly "twanging" to practically none, it's done it once during the week. So although not a long term cure has sorted it for now. A company car could be on the cards so i'll wait until I know about that before I do much more on the Vec
