nope, it's deffo a belt......
and yes... VX swap intervals like they change their socks....
It seems that 'some' 1.9s have been breaking their belts well before the 100,000 mile mark. Not too sure about the V6s,but apparently Saab and Renault are quite happy to let theirs run to 100,000.
Whether or not you should change the belt earlier to allow for the additional stress of a remap or whatever I couldn't really say.
does anyone know how much does it cost to get the belt changed on a 1.9? mines on 75k but on a 55plate so its got their relatively fast - slightly worried now.
not so bad then. thanks adams
ive just bought a 2004 plate vectra 1.9 cdti sri with 71000 miles on, do u think i should get the cambelt changed now or when is it actually due to be changed is it 100k? also anyone know of any problem matters with them seemed to drive great on test drive, better than my v plate 2.0l petrol sri
i'd play as safe as you can.. you're entering the 'grey zone' with it.. you've just stumped up a lot of hard earned, so don't let it go bang.. my advice is to play safe..
any problems with the CDTi engine.... lets just say you either get a good one or a VERY bad one...
popular problems include appetite for swirl valves, turbo's, injection systems and there was also an alternator recall in 2004..
My very best advice.. get a good, independant, 3rd party warranty...one that will cover you if it does prove to be one of the bad one's..that way then you can sit back in confidence that you will avoid any potential big bills..
when they are running well, they are great cars.....much better than the B's...but they could have made the CDti engines out of sterner stuff..
