    Question Broken Springs

    Hi Everyone,

Can anyone help me with this? Yesterday my 04 GSI V6 had the front springs replaced as they had both snapped at the top (and they had too, I saw them - not great for 38K, but thats another story). Anyway, the springs have been changed and this is my question - the garage have told me that the springs on the GSI are the same as the Signum - is this true?? I ask becuase a) the car now looks a little high at the front to me and b) feels a little bouncy - or is this because I've got used to the look and ride with broken springs?

Yep, it's true - well, partly, anyway. The Vec and Sig share the same front end, so as long as it's a Sig with the same engine, then yes, it will have the same front springs.

It will take a while for the springs to settle properly, so give it a few days before you decide if it's really too high or not.

    Question

    Thanks for the reply parapaul.

Just a further question then. From your reply does it follow that an Elite V6 would also share the same springs too? But, I was under the impression that the GSI was lowered and stiffened in comparison?

nope, they would be a different ride height, and a different spring rate...the elite springs are taller and softer...yes, the GSi is lowered and taughtened.. but only a bit more...-15mm from the elite..

Still not happy with my new springs. They feel fine now and it's very happy through corners but it doesn't look right. Either the front is too high or the tail is too low. Any helpful GSI owners know/will measure their motors ride height front and back and let me know the results and how you measured it (for consistency)?

Please help someone!! Okay, still think the front springs are too tall. I've had the rear lifted with spacers so the chassis sits perfectly level. But as I think the front is too high that means the back is too - and it looks it. I've measured from the side-skirt just by the wheel arch to the floor on the front and back and it's 18.5cm to the floor on all four corners. Could any helpful SRI/GSI owners try this too and let me know the results or does anyone out there know what the correct ride-height should be and how it is measured? I've found countless references saying the SRI/GSI is 20mm lower than standard, but I've not found out what the standard is!

Have a look at post #1 on this thread http://forum.vectra-c.com/showthread.php?t=40288

Are your ride heights anywhere near mine? Please bear in mind that my springs have now done 61000 and may have sagged somewhat

Okay, Iíve now measured my ride height using the gtr1000ion method and mine sits perfectly at 68.5cm on all four corners Ė remember mines been spacer-ed to sit level front to back and I have to say KSR have done that perfectly. I didnít measure it before it was raised but Iíd guess itís gone up at least 5cm at the back. Interestingly they tried a set of new springs on the back as the first suspicion was that the backs had sagged but they didnít make any difference so we went down the spacer route.

I still think it looks a little high, the gap between the top of the wheel and the arch seems a little too big. Iíve spied a couple of V-C SRIs at the local garage and Iím planning to have a sneaky with a tape measure as soon as I can and Iíll post the results.

Any other owners of a standard GSI/SRI want to post their results?

P.S. Toyo Proxes T1Rs on the front of a GSI are thoroughly recommended! Unfortunately they do wear a bit quick and so thats why they are on the back and the horrid GY NCT 5s are on the front Ė still wearing quickly (donít know how that happens )
