    Default Anybody ever been......

White water rafting in the UK. My daughter bought me one of those action activity things out of Argos, I would rather have had the driving one (Ferraris etc and about three times the price LOL), but I am really looking forward to this. The only thing is there is only 7 places that you can do it at. They are:
    River Tees, Teeside
    River Nene, Northants
    Holme Pierrepont, Notts
    River Tay, Perthshire (2 locations)
    River Tryweyn, Gwynedd (2 locations)
I don't want to choose a centre, just to be told months afterwards that such and such a centre is much better than the one I chose.

I used to go kayaking often on the River Swale (Richmond/Teesdale area) and that was great fun. Do you know which bit of the Tees it's on? I'm guessing it's the Tees Barrage?

The Tees Barrage, Tryweyn and Nene are locations that the English White Water Rafting Committee (linked to the British Canoe Union) list as places to raft at. There is also a custom built course at The National Water Sports Centre in Notts (don't know if it's the same place as the Notts location you mention).

Basically, you're definitely going to have a whale of a time at any of the locations I mentioned above, but I'm sure the other ones will be just as good. Just depends which one is best for you for date and location.

    Have fun!

Ditto, used to do a bit of White Water Kayaking myself. Tyne Tees and Holme Pierpoint (this is the National Watersports Centre Duncan mentions) are both artificial courses and are able to operate year round as they do not depend on river levels etc.... Trywern is a cracking place as well, and also operates most of the year round as it is run below a dam, so again does not depend on river levels. These are the 3 sites I would recommend as they are all highly recommended in Kayaking circles.

With any of the locations (including the artificial courses), there will be limited dates as they can't just release millions of gallons every day, so you will be given a list of dates that are available for each... the good thing about the artificial ones is they are able to operate in the summer as well as the winter!!!

Whichever one you chose though, you're gonna have the most fun you can have in a rubber suit!!!?!?!?!?!??!??

OK guys, thanks for that . Duncan, the Teeside one is the Barrage. That Holme Pierrepont one is now looking favourite as it's cropped up the most in this thread and it was mentioned to me this morning by one of the guys at Karate, when I asked the same question there. Can't wait now , but I can go any time between now and October this year.
