what filter?

hi all, i have recently done the airbox mod to my 2.2 sri (petrol) and have noticed no real improvement. i done this to my mk4 astra and immediately there was a huge improvement. any ideas as to my there is no difference in the vectra. also will a k&n panel filter add any grunt to the induction, to be honest my engine sounds a bit lame for a 2.2...bit of a cross between a washing machine & sewing machine & a 83 fiesta popular sound. doesn`t sound powerful. when i get into my astra i immediately fell like an 18yo again its raring to go and it sounds good to...and everything on it is stock..no mods at all...
