Default Warranty valid if I change oil?

I am planning on changing my oil soon. Would this invalidate my warranty ( cant see how they would know? )
Also mine is a 1.8vvt, and according to the handbook it only takes 5 litres? I thought it would have been 5.5 - 6? anyone know if thats right?
Anyone know of any offers on oil at the moment?

Providing the oil filter is either a GM branded or aftermarket unit and the oil meets the viscosity, then there are no issues
I've changed oil and oil filters, kept the receipts, and never had any issues

I used to take my Rover diesel to Halfords for its 6K mile interval oil and filter changes, as they charged just £12

Are you saying that this is an interim oil change, or a 'service' oil change?

If it's interim, and your car is not due a service yet, then how could they possibly know, unless you tell them? Of course you're going to change the filter too??? If you want to do it, then do it it won't affect warranty. I do ask why you feel it necessary though??

1.8 VVT oil cap?? sorry can't help, but the 1.8 NON VVT is less than the 5 litre container you buy.

An interim service is a good idea if you plan to keep the car for a while they won't know if you use genuine parts. I will do it myself so only the cost of parts. I get the parts from the local motor factors. 5L sounds about right to me.

My dads car has been serviced by BMW to their schedulesince he bought it new in 1998. Last year the oil light stayed on for longer than normal. A local garage dropped the sump and found the oil pick up blocked and sludge. He cleaned it up and put some stuff in with the new oil and the pressure is now OK now. He now services the car at this garage and changes the oil more often. The car has covered 180k+ now.
