    Default Brown trouser moment !

Yesterday I had a brown trouser moment.

The fuel pump on my other car was acting up, so I disconnected the fuel lines (small amount of fuel spillage) and had a look see to check what was going on.

Anyway, rebuilt it and powered it up, some more fuel spilled out from the connector. So I disconnected the pump to stop it pumping more out.

As I disconnected it there was a spark and that ignited the spilled petrol in the boot area (probably about an egg cup full).

Anyway, having 2 foot high flames in the boot of your car really gets the heart racing........

Luckily, I had an extinguisher which did it's job in about 1 1/2 seconds.

I've had that extinguisher for about 10 years on the garage wall in it's quick release clip. It really does make you think how essential they really are.

I have absolutely no idea where the pin went. Pulled it out and didn't care where it went after that....

    So, 2 lessons learned.
    1. Sparks and spilled petrol are NOT a good combination.
    2. Fire extinguishers are a really good idea to have handy.

After reseating the connector, the pump now works fine with no leaks..

It burnt a disused wire and caused a little bit of paint bubbling on the rear wing area. I am not bothered at all about the wire, and only slightly bothered about the paint as it was only primer in that area anyway.

    Smilling Now.

At Least the brown Trouser evidence would of been burn't & nobody would of known had it really gotten out of control !!!

The Key is to stay calm & in control as you did & not to panic Well Done

Fire extinguishers are a Godsend & also very useful for Holding Fire Doors Open
