    Default Boost Pressure>?

    Hi all,
I have been wondering if the 1.9 150ps has any room left for more boost assistance?

Back in the day, i could buy a 3 bar map sensor and bleed vavle and boost up nicely, the ecu would refuel to match the pressure - up to a certain amout. I know you have to charge cool etc to prevent piston meeting inner wings, etc, etc!

Does the boost pressure get adjusted with say the BSR re-mapping>? or does it simply remove the overly ozone friendly lean-ness?

I can't beleive VX have the turbo pressure at Maxed out pressure's, they normally have quite a margin reserved for reliablity..

Anyone got any psi figures about? pre mapped v's std?

Not sure if this had been discussed here before coulden't see it!

    Fanx

    biddyy,

I believe from what has been said on here that the BSR remap adjusts the boost pressure amongst other things to achieve and usually exceed their published power gains. Sure someone on here will clarify for you

Yep, as John said the likes of the BSR remap will, along with the many other things it alters, increase boost pressure.

Not sure what the standard boost is for a 1.9, but have a search for threads by Nutron to see what he's tweaked his boost to run at , and I'm sure he mentions what the standard boost is as well somewhere.

BSR change the following during re-maps.

Boost pressure, injector timing and fuel pressure are the main things changed but the safety parameters are kept in place.

There's over 30 variables altered on a BSR map (on the petrol anyway) so the diesel is probably similar. Gawd knows if I could think of 30 things it may change off the top of my head though! lol

Ooo, boost pressure, this is definatly my thread now. The max your turbo will produce is mad, I've seen 36psi when tuning but that doesn't give more power I assure you. Peak performance is around 28-29psi which is around the level that the new twin turbo produces (1.8bar). I did do a thread about this when I first started manipulating the boost manually but refrained from doing a how to. I didn't think it was a good idea to show loads of people how to blow up their engine... With our engine, the boost can easily be manipulated using a boost gauge, boost valve (the three pronged bleed valves), a large T-piece and some silicon hose. You can pick up all this stuff off the shelf in Halfords.

The problem is that you can't just add a bleed and tap off some of the pressure because you can't get at any pressure feeds to the waste gate. You have to T-piece in to the vacuum control side and add a little more vacuum after the solenoid. Standard boost is around 22-25psi as it does have and over boost function.

If you are unsure of what you are doing then just don't do it, I really don't want to be reading threads about turbos blowing up as a result of people trying this.

I dread to think what Nutron would do if his car had gull-wing doors and reached 88 mph.......

Karl would be mightily disappointed - he wants to be the first to blow up his in the name of extreme tuning!

Seriously though, good point by Nutron (Karl) though. If you're at all unsure as to what to do then best left alone. I think on the 1.9 it's all too easy to run excess boost with the subsequent consequences. I'm sure Karl could give you some pointers by PM if he didn't, understandably, want to post up a How 2.

So Karl, you have no worries about the raised boost pressure on re-maps by BSR/EDS etc? Although I have never heard of any failures, it's good to know that you have exploited the depths of major boost and still have your engine running!!!!

The worst bit is, that the 1.9 will run at over 30 psi on the road and you might not even realize until it's too late...
