As some may have seen me post last night, today I went to Elvington Air Strip to drive an LP640! (wife only told me last night, its my birthday present)
Drove down there this morning, man I hated the lost hour of sleep!
Got there around 10:30, and started to drool immediately. On track you could see three Ferraris, two Gallardos, two Mercielagos, an Atom, Porsche turbo, Caterham, M3s, etc etc
I booked in and noticed you could pay for extra laps as you went (NOT CHEAP)
Straight off I booked the Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale, and the Atom, ontop of my pre booked LP640 runs.....
The Challenge Stradale is an awsome machine, and drove sooo well, EVERYTHING is communicated to you through the car, but ultimately, I didn't like it, the paddle gearchange made it a bit, well, detached? It took (almost) full chat gearchanges in its stride, sounded unreal as it blipped down the gears, and the brakes were truly phenomenal!
Then was time for my ride in the LP640, a car I love, in every way, I cannot fault them for looks, performance, anything.
1st thing of note is just how easy they are to drive, it really is easy peasy! The clutch is light, the throttle easy to modulate, and the steering delicate and communicative. It did feel VERY wide, because it is, and it has quite a large blindspot to the right, but who cares, it sounded and went like the full rampaging bull you expect.
Only downside was due to noise regs there you cant take it past 5.5k (well, 5 but I let it go a touch ) But it wasn't something that you would complain about, it just surges ahead no matter the speed/gear.
Once out of the Lambo I was presented with a car I thought would just be "a laugh" to drive, the Ariel Atom.
A LAUGH, its evil, its insane, it goes like nothing I have ever ever imagined, it makes the controls on the other cars seem dull and lifeless, makes the Ferrari feel slow and the Lambo ponderous! What a car. 9k on the tacho and full bore changes as you hurtle up the straight, using a quick throw short ratio box, while the wind buffets you from directions you will never experience in other cars, I LOVED IT. That car deserves to be sat on my drive, I dont care if it has no roof, doors, windscreen, boot, anything.......I want one, and I want one NOW!

Anyone thinking about doing one of these things, sod the cost, DO IT!
