    Default Ccr 2006

Can someone help out.I was having a discussion with a few mates about standard head units. I was saying how good the standard ccr2006 unit was and I got slated. They all say Vaux head units are crap and the after market route is the way.

Has anyone any opinions either way

I've always found the standard Philips/Blaupunkt/Siemens VDO (less satisfied about Delphi) very good, but lots of people over here will disagree Maybe not the most sophisticated ones, but good sound and easy to use with a reasonable amount of buttons.

I have the CD70 with 9 speakers by the way

Your mates are talking rubbish. There are some very decent standard HUs in Vx cars. The CCR2006 is one of them. Of course, there are aftermarket ones that are better, but as standard ones go the CCR2006 is not at all bad. As a comparison example though, the same can't be said for the CDR2005.

Beg to differ, Dunc. Have had no poblems whatsoever with CDR2005, on my Edition100 or on my previous 'Active' 1.8.

    Famous last words?

I was only going by past comments made by a lot of owners that had this HU. They weren't saying it was unreliable or anything like that, just lacking somewhat in the sound quality area compared to other HUs like the CCR2006 (comparing HUs of the same era).

Couldn't agree more in my experience.

    I think it's all relative...

Compared to factory HUs from a few years ago, current OE models are excellent, and manufacturers must invest a lot of money in making units that can produce half decent sound from the paper and sticky tape speakers they fit.

However, any half decent aftermarket HU (and I mean more than £50 from Argos ) will eclipse the OE unit in terms of sound quality. It's not until you hear the difference that you appreciate just how fudgey and woolly the factory fit HU is.

And it's nothing to do with flashy displays

Sound quality is good, but if you want to use a PC made disc then they skip, I think this is why the cr4p label has been applied.
