That's because the Diesel has a smaller power band than a Petrol. Between 1500 and 4000 rpm, it should pull well, beyond that, you're just making noise, smoke and wasting Diesel. On a petrol auto, the kickdown is there to drop a gear or two and give full revs and power, on a diesel, it's really a wasted function, you'd be better using the tiptronic function and changing up at 4-45000 rpm, that way, you stay in the power band.

Have you checked those Turbo and Intercooler hoses yet?

Should have mentioned mine is an auto. Pushing the accelerator right to the floor gives it a 'kickdown' :

It was great in my old Veccy but not so good on the SRi

That's some RPM, especially for a diesel.

I could see some hoses just below the engine cover that looked ok. The screws on the cover have no thread left so the torx bit couldn't get any grip to get them off

That's a bit of a pain, Tam, it's under that cover on mine where it blew off.

Is it still smoking under power?

Yep - agree with you Tam. I have a diesel auto 1.9 facelift and the kickdown is a wee bit better than the older style 2.2 auto (a mate had one for a few months) but tbh - not a huge difference to warrent rushing out and changing your car. BTW - how is sunny larkhall, one of my old stomping grounds? Lived in Lanark for years and doing the 400 mile drive next month to visit family so will look out for you.

At least the drive should give my new car a good run!!LOL

Im still thinking about a catterman tuning box, im sure it will make a difference but not sure if it would destroy the auto box??
