    Default Replacing tyre valve ???

Can you replace a tyre valve without removing the tyre. I have just got a set of wheels and a tyre is flat, probably the valve. It will be a lot easier for me to replace the valve than send it away and wait for another to come back, then go and pick it up from the courier ! If the tyre has to come off though it will be a rebalance job as well, and possible damage to the wheel ?

Also do kwit fit etc keep chrome valves ?

unfortunatly not as the valve is pushed into the hole from behind. Its a tyre off job im afraid, but get it checked first. I had a tyre keep going flat and even though the valve was replaced a few times. Turned out i had a slight flat spot in the rim where the tyre was leaking air slighty everytime it rolled over that spot.

replacing a valve means tyre off sorry mate.
if your leaking air, then it's more than likely the valve but as andy says you may have a 'flat spot' in your rim.
you could ask the tyre fitter to 'clean' the rims (basically making sure the seal is good before putting the tyre on again by cleaning off any old dirt/sealant etc - but to be honest that should'nt affect newer wheels...

as for keeping the chrome valve caps...some do, some don't.
you could always nip to halfrauds on your way to the tyre place?

Monkyspunky is correct, but that will only replace the valve, if that part is faulty, i have known them to leak there, and replacing it has solved the problem.
Why not replace the valve as above then inflate the tyre and put some soapy water round the edge of the tyre and rim [easier if the wheel is lieing flat on the ground]. then if it is leaking from the rim/tyre you should see some bubbles.

I once had a valve replaced at Kwik Fit, the guy deflated the tyre, removed the valve, replaced and re-inflacted - didn't need balancing as he could get his hands in to replace the valve.

I called in at 1700 on a sunny saturday afternoon just before closing, they guy did it for free

Thanks Guys, The wheel is brand new and doesn`t look damaged as is the tyre so I am hoping for the valve, and hopefully it can be done without removing the tyre then, which is a bonus, and getting a valve from halfrauds is a good idea, I wouldn`t have thought of that ...

If you have the other three wheels, why not take a valve out of one of them and try it, it will then proove if it is the valve that is at fault.
