Quick question, What are the advantages and disadvantages of de-cating? also is there a pre cat in a 2.0t?

De-cat will reduce the resistance of the exhaust system, and should give you slightly more power and torque. It is, however, an MOT fail....

If you're looking at this as an option, why not look at a sports cat instead? Best of both worlds....

There is a well respected exhaust shop over here that will take the cat out for £40 and put it back in for £40 at mot time. car is only one year old and I change cars when they get to three anyway, so with that in mind would you do it? is there two cats in my car?

No pre-cat in a 2.0T. Main cat is attached directly to the turbo, then the downpipe/front section to that.

As Paul said a sport cat will make a difference and still pass the MOT emissions test. On the 2.0T the sports cat will usually be part of a new downpipe that attaches straight to the turbo and sell the old cat on eBay.

just back, the guy said that if he took the cat out it would bring engine management lights on and it was not worth doing anyway as the cat was not a bottleneck for exhaust gases as it was quite a good one in it.I got the opinion from the guys that work there that is was just too awkward. He said I would see better gains with a cat back powerflow system for £450. What do you guys think?

your a bit far away but ive heard the newry branch of powerflow r alot better than belfast,theres also canavans in lurgan who would make you upa good system but again abit far away

It would if the lamda (O2) and oxygen temp sensors weren't reconnected. As long as you got a downpipe/sports cat configuration that had the attachments for those sensors then you won't have an issue.

If you were to run with no cat at all then yes it would bring up an emissions error light as the post cat lamda sensor would be getting out of range values due to there being no cat.

...and it was not worth doing anyway as the cat was not a bottleneck for exhaust gases as it was quite a good one in it.

maybe the cat's position put him off...it's not the best place to try and put a section into as it's bolted to the engine..

You need a JETEX system, like we fitted to Duncan's 2.0T
