    Default Bodyshop price?

Just had a proper quote from my vauxhall dealership that i trust for some spray work, whole offside rear quarter panel including fuel flap and the repair of some scratches on the rear sri bumper and a complete respray of said bumper.

    £403 all in.

    am i getting shafted?

I paid £125 for a rear quarter as it was slightly scrapped whilst doing some insurance work.

Where do vx take it? I assume it goes somewhere else. I remember Ford near me used a shed in the middle of nowhere but the quality was very good.

that sounds about right for a big dealership, although you could probably get it done cheaper at a smaller independant bodyshop

Ive had work done from them before and its been a good colour match, my concern is going to a non vauxhall dealer they will struggle to match the car.

Does being water based make painting/drying harder?

vauxhall bodyshops use the same paint as any other bodyshops mate ie ppg,max meyer, shermin williams so the colour match will only be as good as the guy who picks the shade for the car,as for the water based question the base coat takes a few minutes longer but nothing really to worry about and the clear is just the same so drying times havent really changed much

yeah its possible to have a car clearcoated again providing theres no blemishes in the paint you have at the moment as the clear wont cover anything, thats why its called clear lol although it would be expensive as getting respayed as the same work goes in to it can i ask why your concerned about paint thickness?

just my car start off life with around 140 microns of paint all over give or take 5 microns.

Now after 3 heavy PC'ing sessions im now down to 120 ish all over so was just a thought really, i know the colour coat will only be around 30 microns any way with the rest made up of clearcoat and primer
