signum 2.2dti elegance egr problems

I have been experiencing problems with the above car for the past 2 months. It broke down in mid-july, the AA diagnosed the EGR valve as the fault. I have had it replaced but the problem is still there!
the car will drive fine for 2-3 days then start playing up either by "jerking" as if "kangaroo" petrol was being used , this happens usually when doing 50-70mph. Or, as has been the case recently, when I slow down or stop at a give-way or traffic-lights thn the revs drop from 850 to around 450 and lower then eventually stalling. It usually starts again and after some fierce revving I can carry on my journey.
The engine management light (Spanner) usually comes on, but not always.
I have had to call out the AA twice since replacing the EGR valve, but every time their computer picks this up as the fault. Either the new part has been incorrectly fitted or thre is some underlying fault with the car!
has anybody experienced these faults? If so can you advise solution!!!!

my mind thinks several things..

is the EGR valve fitted correctly?..

have you any induction leaks that make it run poorly?

i wonder as it won't idle if the MAF sensor is also playing up?

i'd start with an air leak somewhere?..particularly with the cutting out and low revs stalling.

cheers for the advice mark its my brothers motor and its currently sitting in local independant vaux garage misbehaving lol
