    Vehicle : insignia tourer

    Trim : elite

    Engine : 2.0 cdti 160

    Year : 2011

    Default

main problems that i know about frontera`s is that they suffer big time
with the front/rear diffs, they leak and whine and expensive to
fix/replace and the half shaft bearings its not really a diy job,it has to be
done at a garage or even a dealer as the half shafts bearings are pressed
on and it can be a barstuard of a job trying to remove them from the axle
housing, just have a good check over it thoroughly but apart from that there
pretty comfy 4x4`s,great for towing aswell but its being lucky getting a
good 1 thats been looked after.

seperate gearstick for 4x4, no diff lock,
in-laws had a sport but changed it for a long wheel based/estate, the ride is very choppy and bouncy on the sport, also if you remove the roof it has to be left behind as it doesnt fit inside the car

Probably the most unreliable car on the road today, after my Signum.

I seem to remember when they first came out circa '91 that they had loads of problems with oil leaks on the 2.0

I know a few people with the later diesels and they've been quite happy with them.

iirc it's a no no car, along with the Sintra, two of VX's worst efforts.

I can get you an Irmy Trooper LWB 3.1 TDi, lemme know and I will ask the questions for you.

I had an SJ413 as my first 4x4, the only real thing to watch with them as far as I know is rust (especially round the arches where the rubber extension sits) and the lay shaft for the 5th gear as they can whine.

Fun little car, quite capable off road - embarrassed many a Landie with mine.

Trooper - quite a tough machine, the diesels a good slogger. Not sure how good the LWB would be offroad though.

Personally, despite having a few problems with the one I bought from new, I'd look at the Vitara as its got far more grunt that the SJ's and is resonable on the road as well.

My brother had both Fronteras and a Monterey -(the VX badged trooper) -and neither was exactly reliable, but the Frontera broke most often. On one abortive trip to France, it lost all it's back axle oil and had to be Relayed back. I'll never forget the smell of transmision fluid cooking on a hot exhaust!
