I've heard that saab 9-3 and vectra share the same platform from GM. How similar are they and is worth putting extra money into saab when you can get the same in a vectra ?

From Catermans experience with Saab's the build quality is a bit suspect in the 93, but yes, they do share drivetrain/floorpans with the current vectra-c range..

SAAB customer care is a bit suspect to these days, certainly no better than VX's...

I'd rather buy VX as the spares are cheaper..

Guess it all depends if youe a badge "snob" really. All the main components are the same, engine, suspension, electrics.....only difference is the body shell and interior design.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

As others have said, The 9-3 Aero i had (2004) was the same floorpan/running gear etc. as the Vectra. Build quality quite frankly was poor compared to other Saab's i've had in the past. Too many squeaks and rattles My clutch went at 25k miles and it cost me £700 to repair as it was only just out of warranty. After a lot of calls to Saab GB they eventually coughed up £200 towards it

£ for £ go for a Vectra m8, i bought another one as i just could not get anything close for the price with the same spec/engine quality etc.

I test drove the twin turbo 1.9 Aero and I though the inside was tacky compared with my Vectra and didn't look like it would hold up long.

My brother has a new Saab 9-3, even though i like the way it looks the build quality is worse than the Vectra. It squeeks and rattles everywhere, the seat squeeks and the silver dash trims all scratch at the slightest touch.
And of course the service is terrible!

The turbo engines in the Saab 9-3 are the same as in the Vectra except for the 1.9 TTiD (twin turbo) which will be coming in the Insignia.

The 2.0T engine in the Vectra is known as the 2.0t in the 9-3, with the same 173bhp output. The detuned 1.8t with 150bhp is not available in the Vectra. Saab have a tuned version of the 2.0t that they call 2.0T with 207bhp, which is not available off the shelf in the Vectra, but that power can be achieved, nay exceeded, with a remap of the 2.0T.
