    Default Spanner Light

I've been looking around the threds and someone has probably asked this before, but I can't fine it.

Is the spanner light supposed to come on when you switch on the ignition.

Mine comes on and then goes off, thought it was supposed to do this as part of the internal checking.

    Also

How can I check when a service is due,
I know how long I've got looking at the service book, but there is a way of checking on the car,
I have tried keeping the trip button pressed, but it just comes up with the spanner light on the left display and a few number on the right namely
1.7 002 04, which mean jack to me.

    Any Ideas.

press the trip button when ignition is off , mine is comin on too so trying to suss it as its not near service time yet.
I hear if you hold in trip button and cruise button or brake pedal together this resets the service to the maximum service interval

The spanner light coming on and going off means the ECU has logged a code, although it might not be an active fault it could do with checking out.

Even though the fault is no longer present it will flash on with every ignition cycle until you get it cleared. If there is more than one fault present you will need to get them cleared and see which one comes back to pinpoint the actual fault. It may actually be nothing as a sensor can occasionally throw up a fault for no apparent reason but best to get it checked.

I take it you mean the one going vertically through the car? If so, then yes, it comes on briefly as a check light (bulb is working) and then should go off. If it stays on until you've started the car, then a fault code is stored in the ecu memory.

You'll only get the mileage remaining till next service when you hold down the trip reset if you car is set for ECOService-Flex intervals. If you're on fixed service intervals, and depending on the age of the Vectra, the word INSP will appear in the odometer display when a service is shortly due. I had the ECOService-Flex turned off on my previous 2004 Vectra and had it reverted to fixed service intervals. I was told that the INSP message wouldn't appear as the car didn't have the feature. My 2006 Vectra does however have the INSP message when a service is due, but not ECOService-Flex service intervals thankfully.

If you know when the service is due, I wouldn't lose any sleep over worrying whether your car has a service reminder light or not.

    Cheers Guys

The spanner light is the one with the car behind it.

This does go off after a few secs.

Thinking of taking it for just an oil change at the Stealers, any idea how much a tech 2 check will be on top?

The car runns fine with no unexpected behaviour, Had the Swirl Valve/Intake done last month and all seems ok.

    Its a 1.9 CDTI 16V ON A 54 PLATE

It should not come on as a self check. It does mean it has stored a fault code. It will clear after 25 starts or so if it does not have anyother faults.

Yes it does, just like all the other dash warning lights as a bulb check, but as I already mentioned (and also mentions in the handbook) it should go off within a couple of seconds.

Only if it remains on without the engine running, then it's indicating a stored fault. And it takes longer than 25 clean start ups before it clears.

If it flashes when the ignition is turned on, then it is an immobiliser related fault.

    .
    Its 25 OR SO starts

If it flashes its not safe to drive the car - switch off and get to a dealer time. An Immobiliser fault is a padlock symbol
I can assure you in my handbook it does NOT say it should come on at start up unless there is a problem. Page 36,53 and 202

Ahh Big Dave, It looks as though they have fitted a more basic design dash in the facelift than the pre-facelift. I don't even have that symbol you posted up on my dash as its all through my dot matrix display. Scottymf, if yours is a prefacelift like mine then it shouldn't show, if its a facelift or has the symbol Big Dave has posted up then yes it should..... clear as mud
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
