    Default coolant loss

right, i ve seem to developed coolant loss. was slightly under line about two weeks ago, so topped it to be sloghtly over the line and now its back to under again. so not a massive loss, but still loss. hopefully its sumthing thats covered by a warranty? also, read before that if something was repaired there would be a silver dot the coolant cap, which there is. can someone remind me what this would be?

first, and most likely 'easy' cause.... change the tank cap ... they are well known for becoming weak and allowing hot coolant vapour to secape, making it look like coolant loss..

i take it you have not other signs of trouble?..just the water going down?

    other signs?..

If it's an auto then i'd check the fluid in the transmission carefully for water contamination.. is there any oil spotting in the header tank?..are there any water droplets coming from the driverside of the car when it's idling with the engine hot?.. is the oil on the dipstick it's 'usual' colour or is it lightly whiteish?..

if you haven't got any of those then i'd swap the pressure cap ( it's only a few quid) as they are a favourite part..

thats no probs Lilangel.... in my household the girls fix cars as well....Mrs GSi's signum is all her own work..

just look really hard for any water thats escaping ( any signs of it) around the coolant bottle... that would be a good start..if you dry it with a tissue all over then run the car for a day or so before rechecking.. it should still be dry if the tank and / or cap are fine.. any signs of loss are easily visible then..

    ..

    fair enough....

if you do get stuck and aren't too far away we could always take a look for you..but dry it and see if you can locate it first..
