    Default Architects, Technicians, B.Control

This is a question for anyone working in the above fields...

I've just been on a B.Reg seminar at South Kesteven, on the new Part L alterations for April of this year. Having spent a day on the subject I thought i'd ask the following to anyone in the same line of work as me...

    "?"

Clarification on the alterations to the regs would be lovely...

    cheers guys

ta, downloaded them, after seminar...it was more to do with how to meet the new regs - as the A.D. isn't finalised, and there are no robust details, or some other document they were talking about isn't done yet, and they've scrapped the elemental method of calculating thermal resistance....

i though the alts to Part E were bad...this is going to make private work very difficult

why dont they put all the info in place first, then bring out the regulation

building control are also not accepting any applications after mid-february, to allow them to be approved before the amendments come in, which means all the house type drawings i am doing now dont meet the new regs, and i dont know how to meet the new regs...???

the best you can do is try and meet these draft documents. I'll admit i havent read them yet so no idea what the changes are yet and being freelance, i havent the luxury of a snoozy seminar lol.

If its anything like when the new Part M came out, building control wont have a clue either.

im not a member of any proffessional body. I was going to join BIAT but i cant really see any point and i've got better things to spend a few hundred quid a year on than a few letters are my name and a magazine every 3 months lol.

only been freelance for the last 3 years and work through an agency via a limitied company. Means i get paid per hour, more than permanent staff but i dont get paid holidays, sick etc and im on 1 weeks notice.
Worked onmost kinds of project for private practise and local authority, although Housing is the only thing ive not done yet.
Was thinking of working for a housebuilder as they seem to offer good wages/company car as the norm

i work for house builders, pays not great (however i'm only 21 and everyone reckons i'm on a mint), but work is really enjoyable - do private work - extensions etc. and can make a lot extra that way...

employer pays for CIAT, if you did know owt about the new Part L, it wouldn't help if its non-domestic stuff you do anyway, they have different requirements...

    cheers anyway andy.

Just stick my head in here - nothing but sheer noseiness!!

Do you two wanna get a room, or would you need to sit down and draw out the plans first!!

Sorry, only joking - before I get a lambasting off either of you!

Started to have a peek at one of those PDF's, then thought better of it as I started to get all faint and dizzy and felt a headache coming on! There's technical (which I don't mind) and then there's that technical!

Anyway, over - I'll bu**er off and leave you to it!
