Default Advice please - changing seats - is it possible?

    Hi crew,

I was thinking about changing my front seats for a set of Corbeaus, then having the remainder of the interior retrimmed.

What I was wondering is whether there is a way to get around the airbag light that would appear on the dash upon disconnecting the wiring to the side airbag in the seats? Is there some cheater you can fit on the plugs?

Also, does anyone know how kindly the insurance company would look on these, I know not great, but has anyone else had experience of premium hikes due to changing seats?

    Thanks

    Vid,
Id say Tech2 would be needed regardless. i would also say your geuss of needing a cheater type plug is spot on too.
Insurance wise i dont think they are keen but only real answer is to ring them up and see what they say

You could fit a resistor in place of the airbag,i know of someone who done it with a steering wheel on an Omega (only problem is finding the resistance of the airbag) and that worked fine.

They look smart Dave but personally i'd go for a pair of Recaro's.
www.recaro.com The sport and sport topline look like the VXR seats but you can mix colours like the seats you have in mind.

you cannot tech 2 any of the airbags out of the Airbag module. Once set thats it. It stops people who repair cars from turning off the airbags and therefore not replacing them if they went off.

    ^^^ what he said...

if you want to fool the car that it hasn't got seat airbags/occupancy detection then you'll have to stump up £380 for an airbag ECU. Once these are programmed and locked they can't be re-entered to alter their programming.. it's bin time..

I found out the hard way...but at least i can do my own programming to the module, so that saved a few quid..

the resistors or 'foolers' may work, but as the CANBUS checks the state of the bags all the time, it may not..If the controller decides that it doesn't like what you've done then it'll flag a fault that can't be reset..and then it'snew module time.
