    Default I'm scared!!!

    Hi guys.

Just about to fit my hatchback spoiler which I bought off Ralph Wiggum a few weeks ago and is now painted. BUT...

I'm scared! It's not often I go drilling holes in my car!

Anyone got any tips for me?

I've noticed that the mounting points on the end supports line up with weld line between the hatchback skins, right on the edge of the tailgate. Is this normal and is it ok just to drill through?

Yeah it's fine, they lined up with the welds on mine..... just make sure you mask and cover the whole back of the car....And measure once, twice, and thrice, to make sure it's all correct before drilling.....because then it's the point of no return, Put all you measurements on masking tape, and not straight on the paintwork.

Also Loctite the studs in the Holes before doing the nuts up. any problem call me <number removed>

Make sure you drill pilot holes first with a small drill bit

Great! Thanks for the help mate!

By the way, what is the actual style of that spoiler? Found lots of people talking about Irmy and VXR ones, but not sure which I've got!

    Cheers!

That's an Irmscher (or replica) spoiler. The VXR spoiler is just an extended lip spoiler that sits on the edge of the boot.

    HTH

    Oh...and good luck!

'Ralph' - just wondering if you want your mobile number on an open forum? Let me know if you want it edited.

As for the spoiler, I remember seeing Spikey fitting his at Billing(?) one year and even though I wasn't involved with the fitting/drilling, even my cheeks clenched when they started drilling the hatch lid!

Ralph, got your number down now mate so edit your post if you like!

Spoiler now in place and pants been changed... Minor scare when the battery went on the drill and the chuck key seemed to have distorted when I tried my old mains drill... Had to use mole grips to tighten the chuck!

Cheers for all the help everyone, I'll get some pics up soon!

Now removed - probably best not to have mobile numbers on the forum for anyone and everyone to see.

I remember it well! Scariest thing I ever did on a car lol, especially with all the spectators at the meet.

This is what you need mate. LOL

    Only kidding mate.
Just mask the area were you are drilling and use a little centre punch to start off the drill. "Stops the drill slipping about" Measure 5 times and drill once is the best tip.
    Hope it go's well.
    Dont forget the pic's
