    Default Where do I stand...?

    Hi all,

    Following on from this thread

    http://forum.vectra-c.com/showpost.p...26&postcount=1

today, my car has been into Lookers (Widnes) today for the problem to be looked at. It turns out that it needs the following:

Drive chain kit (not sure if this is the whole thing)
and oil pump (?) and various gaskets. The car is going back in on Thursday for the work to be done. They said it should be OK as I need it to drive to Milton Keynes tomorrow.

Now the annoying part.... I got home and noticed they've had one of the wheels off and managed to curb it. (my wheels were mint and scratch free) so I wasnt happy and phoned them up, but everyone had left and the receptionist said she would make a note on the system for Thursday.

Think I would be within my rights to 'demand'/ask for a new alloy?? Ok the car is a bit dirty atm, but they can easily see the wheels were in tip-top condition prior to one of their mechanics getting there mitts on it!!

you'll have to hope they agree with you, as no-one in the workshops would dare admit to it......the best you can hope for is a refurb..

Personally, if it needs a chain and pump kit, i'd not drive it far at all.....

TBH, Don't flush these engine's.. the sprayjet is bigger than it used to be but it could still clog with dislodged sludge or carbon particles... it sounds like the chain tensioner thou as it's happened this quick..and thats hydraulically fed from the oil pump..... so if there's no pump pressure to the chains.. where's the oil pressure for the rest of the engine?....

Don't drive it.. thats my strong advise..

    Thanks for your response Mark.

Not driving it could be tricky, I need to take my ex girlfriend back tomorrow, 160+ miles each way!! Haven't got much choice.... doh! I'll have to take it easy

Would it be likely the flush caused the problem? Imo every 2.2 i've heard sounds 'rough' compared to my old 1.8 astra, and 1.8 Vec's. Its just mine seems to of worsened lately. Its really loud if your in the drive thru at McDonalds or parked between 2 cars... weird..

A refurb is the best they'll be able to offer?? I'll let them know i'm not happy. I took a photo of it when I phoned them and you could see it was a fresh scratch.. The tyre is slightly low on tread, so was hoping they'd swap the whole wheel and tyre with the 2008 SRi they have in the showroom!! lol

they sound 'chainy'.. never rough...it should run as smooth as a sewing machine..they are a bit noisier than the old 1800 XE with a belt on it, but they do run smoother thanks to the balancer shaft... perhaps poor oil flow has made the chain wear??.. but thats unlikely..

Take your recovery card with you.....and take it steady...

wheel swap?.. you 'could' ask...but you'd be wise to accept the refurb.. and top tip....they will have to do 2, so they both match on one side of the car.. a single wheel refurb always sticks out like a sore thumb..

Its one of them akward situations. They said they wanted to keep my car over night, but I needed a car and they didnt have any to 'lend' me. They did say it would be OK, that it would just be noisy, and its sounds like a tank today...

Roll on Thursday when it'll be back to normal, i'm dead excited!!!

    Bit of an update!

Timing belt job is complete. Car has never sounded so good in 2 years, i'm made up!

They also agreed to refurb the damaged wheel after the holiday period..

But... They seem to of damaged the door, it will not close properly, feels although it has dropped. So I went back into the the Service Supervisor and he was confused as to how this had happened. There is also greasy finger marks on the cream seal around the door opening.. so I'm not a happy bunny. I've got the name & address of the servicing manager as he isnt based at the branch!!

Why can't they treat other peoples cars with a bit of respect!?!

    So two things learnt.

    1. Don't flush a 2.2
    2. Don't use Lookers.
