    Angry Our Marvellous Politicians again

Des Brown- Part time Defence Secretary.

I cannot find the energy or the words to convey the contempt and anger for this bloated mendacious, bumbling and inept politician who is unfit to scrape the dirt from the soles of the boots of those who serve in his "ministry". The weasels will do anything to shirk responsibility and duty of care and even the loss of life will not shame them into action. These scumbags are not worth lifting a finger for and it baffles me how anybody can continue to serve this valueless government. I hope that one of these inquests sows the seeds of a civil action or a criminal prosecution targeting the faceless penny-pinchers and blame-dodging politicians.

Browne - you are pathetic scum!

    news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sc...300932.stm

Quote:: Defence Secretary Des Browne has asked that strongly-worded criticisms of the Ministry of Defence be outlawed from inquests on soldiers.

The plea came in a test case relating to Scottish soldier Pte Jason Smith, 32, who died of heatstroke in Iraq.

A first inquest said his death was due to a "serious failure" in not noting the difficulty he had with the climate.

Mr Browne's legal representative said the phrase "serious failure" could be seen as deciding civil liability.

Pte Smith, from Roxburghshire, fell ill in temperatures of 60C (140F) in August 2003 at the Al Amara stadium, southern Iraq.

The Territorial Army recruit, who was attached to the 1st Battalion the King's Own Scottish Borderers (KOSB), collapsed at an abandoned stadium, where his unit was stationed.

At an inquest in November 2006, Oxfordshire's assistant deputy coroner, Andrew Walker, concluded that the soldier's death was "caused by a serious failure to recognise and take appropriate steps to address the difficulty that he had in adjusting to the climate".

The coroner said Pte Smith's difficulty in acclimatising to the heat should have been recognised.

However, on Monday the wording of his verdict came under attack at the High Court in London before Mr Justice Collins.

Sarah Moore, appearing for the defence secretary, said the coroner should not have made reference to a "serious failure" to take appropriate steps.

She argued that the phrase could be seen as deciding civil liability and that could not be allowed under Rule 42 of the 1984 Coroners' Rules.

Lawyers acting for the late soldier's mother, Mrs Catherine Smith, argued that Mr Browne's legal challenge was "misconceived".

The judge was told the issue remained important as a new inquest was to be held into Pte Smith's death because of flaws in the original hearing.

Ms Moore said "a matter of general importance" had been raised because the phrase "serious failing" was cropping up on a regular basis in inquests into Iraqi military deaths.

Pte Smith's family are also making submissions to the court over the scope of the new inquest and asking the judge to order full disclosure of MoD documents, except those covered by public interest immunity.

The three-day judicial review will decide the remit of the new inquest.

How this government have a 'part-time' Minister for Defence astounds me in the current situation. However the politicians can only believe what they are being told, The problem starts at the leadership of the services. The higher ranks in the services are only there to protect the pensions they have accrued and do not report the truth from the coal face, after all it may cost them a promotion to step out of line !!

As always if this govt doesn't like the outcome of something, they lie, cheat, change the goalposts, hush it up, redo it until the result is (fiddled) to their advantage, or a combination of these.

serious failing" was cropping up on a regular basis in inquests into Iraqi military deaths.

    Absolutely Disgraceful.

Similarly the poor guy who may well have survived if he'd been given a £50 radio to communicate with the ground while parachuting. Requests for which were made in writing several times. All refused, of course.

If you really tried to screw things up, you still wouldn't make a bigger mess of things than this government has.

All of them should be ashamed.

    Angry

After 24 years in the Army and proud to have served this Country - I am really disappointed in this Gov. It is getting to be a bit embarrassing to think that our Serviceman and Servicewoman are just not getting a fair crack of the whip.
There is just nothing we can do till an election - but will a change do anything differant?
I live not far from many Armed Forces on Salisbury Plain and I feel sad that they get dumped on, with very little support, equipment or materials and are just not getting the gratitude they deserve on their return.
When anyone with any authority speaks out - this chinless, spineless Gov just issues a gag order. It is just disgusting.
