    Default Golf gt tdi 130

Looking at one of these for my mum, anyone got any info on these? what to lookout for etc? Its gonna be about a 02 plate.

(while I was there I saw a 52 plate black GSi veccy. Had sri wheels, full leather and a purple windscreen - solar reflect. Something looked wrong about it. Wrong wheels wrong screen for a climate control equipped car etc)
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    The wife has put 60k on a PD130 on a 53 plate.

It's a good car - about 45mpg average, and reasonable performance.
Blew a Turbo at 20k miles, though Luckily, covered by warranty.
Other than that, just tyres and oil.

Also, check that cambelt and tensioner were changed at 50k, else it can all get very expensive.

solar screen is fine with climate controlled cars.....different sun sensor fitted..

VW's are the same as all other modern diesels...not quite as reliable as the manufacturer wants you to beleive......My freinds father owns the 'spirit' motor group ( VAG main agents)..and they tell me they aren't all they are cracked up to be..

There seem to be lots about, she needs a reliable car for the next 5 or so years. Are the petrol ones any better??

yep, the petrols seem to fair much better...it's just the same type of EGR/Turbo problems that afflict the renaults/1.9CDTi's....

Stick with a petrol..and buy your parts from GSF and you'll be on to a winner..

Golf Petrols are a bit slow, though, unless you are looking at 1.8T's, V5's or V6's, but I don't think that's what he had in mind for his Mum!

I would say that it depends on usage.

For trundling around towns, short, slow, journeys, I'd probably go for the petrol, as the diesel won't like spending all it's time idling.

For doing more mileage, longer trips, faster roads, the diesel wins.

Just to let you know, she is a fast driver currently driving a 2.5V6 F**D. But thats another story.

We test drove the car today, and it was a great car. Nippy up to 70mph "cough" and seemed very well built. Full VW service history, cambelt done recently, serviced before it will be collected, 6 months tax, 12 months MOT etc.....I'm not going into the price we got - as i'm sure someone has got one cheaper - but were happy with it.
I looked on the VW forums and tbh, they are not that active or helpful, but at least they have some info on there. Fingers crossed its a good one. Its got a 6 month warranty - RAC - although it doesn't cover much it will cover all mechnical and electrical problems that are not normal wear and tear. Just a small amount of peace of mind really.

    Anyway, a quick photo

Now I need a turbo to keep up!

My other half had one of these as a company car a 53 plate TDI, by the time it had done 20k the gearbox had blown up. Wasn't bothered as company car but still NOT good! Doesn't mean they're all bad though, apart from that it was lovely car, went well and good MPG.
