I think the direct has higher BHP and better torque ratio.

Hope so anyway cos I've ordered one

The direct has a 'direct' fuel injection. I had one for 8 months and found it very fast, especially pulling away at lights etc

Very little mate. Yes the z22yh (direct) has a little bit more bhp and torque over the 2.2 16v (z22se) but its the MPG that gives its advantage. The YH isnt as easy to tune as the se as the SE has been seen in loads of VX's and been going for a few years now. The only real difference is in the fueling, its now "direct" injected into the bores. Mechanical they are pretty much identical and the only real way of telling them apart from the outside is the different shape of the intake from the TB. HTH

thats good to here, a little less power but more tuning possibilities. ive only recently got the car, upgraded for an 01 sri astra. whats the basic tuning that you would do first, already read the airbox post, thinking of doing that tommorrow, but is there anything thats easy and cheap to do, (im not going to start getting it remapped and turbo added and all, just a few simple things to give it the edge over other 2.2s on the road)......so far i got airbox de restriction and use super unleaded

K&N panel filter (not cone) and a good cat back zorst. The 2.2 loves to be revved, past the flatspot it pulls well for a petrol but looses a bit of puff at the top end be will see you to 135 on the track. I'm fitting a 2.4 inlet manifold imported from the US to solve that problem and you can also fit a TB from the 2.4 as well, but as of yet not both at the same time as the ecu throws a fit getting all that extra air in. The stock plugs are fine so stick with them.
Basically, The inlet manifold, 2.0 sc injectors, zorst manifold, cat back with sports cat, £250ish piper cams and a remap to make them all work together will see you pushing a proven 200+bhp.
