Default Does LPG Conversion lower your VED?

As above really, if you take a petrol car and add an LPG conversion kit, does your VED go down like a dual fuel from the factory, or LPG not effect your VED at all?

I was thinking more for a petrol car. My friend has a MG ZT 180 which is in the new top tax bracket, so he now has to fork out more than double in VED. Seen as hes just bought the car and intended to keep it for 3 years, an LPG conversion may actually work out with him doing 80 miles a day commute. Just wondered how that may work with VED.

I think you can still get a goverment grant for
half the cost of the conversion ! i am going to
look into this a bit more myself.

No grants anymore. Costs about £1700 for a 1.8 Vectra C

    It depends on the conversion/converter.
Some conversions are 'recognised' by the DVLA if the installer is LPGA approved.
Once the conversion is finished the installer gives you a certificate that you send to DVLA and they then can then reband you vehicles taxation class.
It is all still based on emissions though, so it does depend on your car and the conversion you have done.

www.boostlpg.co.uk is quite a good site for FAQ's etc.

Ah just read up. thanks sonic. If you use an approved installer you get a certificate to send to DVLA. This then registers the car as "Alternative Fuel". This gives you a paltry £15 reduction on the current prices, and I cant see that why that would change under Dastardly Darlings Stealth review.
