    Default AFL System Fault

Just wondering whether anyone has had a fault develop on the AFL headlight system. Last week mine showed the system fault light on the dashboard by constantly flashing. I tried a few ignition re-starts but couldn't get the light off.

The lights seem to be working fine but occasionally the system is turning the N/S headlight off and putting the corresponding fog light on. I am aware that this is a safety feature of the system.

I took the car to my dealer this week who diagnosed the fault as a spiking fault on the wiring to the headlight. They chopped out the offending wire and replaced it which cleared the fault code and stopped the system warning light flashing.

I picked the car up yesterday and as soon as I turned the lights on last night the same happened. Warning light up on the dash and it's knocking the N/S bulb out after around 5 minutes.

I am curious as to whether anyone else has suffered similar with theirs, the dealer has told me they never get cars in with this fault and have had to liaise with Vauxhall technical quite a lot.

Cars re-booked for after easter, would appreciate anyone that has some info posting up their findings.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

Cabby had a load of issues with his AFL... in the end they threw the kitchen sink at it..new rear level sensor, full rear wiring loom, and the AFL controller...all under non-existant warranty due to the time it took to fix and parts supply issues..

i take it it's not a bulb or xenon ballast fault is it?...

Yeh another trip it's booked in for after Easter. When I received the call saying it was ready they said they had replaced some wiring and it cleared the fault code. Obviously the technician hadn't tested it with the lights on.

I never thought to test them when I picked the car up, I will be doing this time. It's a strange one as the lights are working fine, they are curving OK and seem to be levelling correctly.

The early suspicion from Vauxhall technical was the control unit attached to each light, these have been tested OK so I'm told. The fault seem to happen when we had that really cold snap a couple of weeks ago, the wipers stopped working then as well.

So it's back to the drawing board for the technical guys. Appreciate your responses guys as it could help throwing some light on the fault. (no pun intended!)

    Paul.

Not sure Mark, the lights are working fine, the system is knocking the near side light out after about five minutes of use, not all of the time though, only occasionally.

My system developed a similar fault and my local stealer re-calibrated the system and it went away touch wood.

    Update:

The car has been back to Vauxhall this week, they have rung me to say they have found the fault. They are having to replace the complete headlight on the N/S. They have said that it is a live and earth fault on the wiring terminals in the headlight.

When turning the lights on the AFL system is blowing a fuse in the UEC (underhood electrical centre) so they have ordered a new headlight to be replaced tomorrow. Glad I'm not paying for it!!!

Car still not done, The dealer ordered the none sport afl headlight so it came with chrome backing instead of black which it should have been. They have also had to by pass some wiring from the UEC to the N/S headlight as it is constantly blowing fuses in the UEC.

Sounds like a botch to me, but Vauxhall technical have advised it's done.
