Default mintex pads on vectra c (1.9 cdti)

Hey folks need to replace the front pads on my veccy c.

Seen a set of mintex pads and was wondering would they eat the standard disks?

The standard pads are really cheap btw, gotta love vauxhall.!!

I have just put a set of Mintex pads on mine, they seem fine now they have bedded in, can't help you on the disc eating question though, only been in a couple of weeks.

The originals (which had just done 50,000 miles) were actually a Ferodo lining, I am saying they were the originals because my Veccy had only done 9,600 miles when I got it and I think it's unlikely they had been changed and I certainly hadn't changed them. I have to say the braking performance from the originals was excellent for a standard pad.

The Mintex ones have a different anti squeal arrangement to the originals, they have a spring clip to hold them on to the caliper piston rather than the butterfly sping on top holding them into the caliper so if you do go Mintex don't think you have got the wrong pads, the spring is a bit fiddly to clip on but it does go.

Spotted the pads on e-bay for 19 quid!!!

Vauxhall main dealers were actually cheaper than kwik fit for a set of pads. Found out I had about 6k left on my pads after a service and thought i`d get a few quotes for a laugh.

    VX main dealers 75 quid

    kwik fit 77.90 fitted.

20 quid delivered how do these people sleep at night???

    Crazy

I have Mintex on mine, cost about £25 from the local auto factor just down the road.

They tend to be a slightly harder compound, meaning a bit more squeal - so use plenty of copper grease on all sliding faces and on the BACKS of the pads.

Other than that, they've been good.

I actually quite like Mintex, and have fitted their products to a fair amount of vehicles over the years.

I have Mintex OE pads on the front of mine, £20 from Autovaux, as said above the spring clips are a little bug*er but with a bit of pressure they pop in.

The Mintex pads are really starting to develop a bit of 'bite' now they're bedded in, feel to be getting better all the time, which is usual. I haven't noticed any sqeal at all which I have to say I have experienced in the past with some other none genuine pads but I've always had good results with Mintex in the past, used them all the time when I raced.

Provided they give good braking effort being harder could be a good thing, less brake dust

The Police spec pads for the GSi are Mintex from VX, Mark (GSi 3.2) swears by them, although that particular pad gives off loads of dust. I agree what you say about them bedding in tough, mine just keep getting better and better, about 600 miles on them now.
