    Default What to expect ?

I am off to a small private track at the weekend -
I have been in a diesel for over 8 years and only got my petrol 2.2 Direct signum a few weeks ago so I am not sure how much to push it.
From the start line - what would the max speed in 6 gear should I expect.??

im not too sure as my 2.2 direct has 5 gears. But you can get to around 6500 before the rev limiter kicks in. Rev 2000 - 3000 to get a quick pull off without spinning the wheels too much

Top speed ive seen on a private road (genuinely ) was 135 showing on sat nav (looked like about 140 on the actual speedo) and i dont think it had much more to give.

Roughly speaking i can hit about 65 in 2nd, about 90 in 3rd, about 120ish in 4th and about 135ish in 5th (maybe a touch more but i had to slow down as i was getting to the end of the road)

Cheers for that Tempo - yep it is a genuine private track - before we head to Nurenburg (?) Ring !!
My main problem is that the engine is so quiet when I think of the diesels I've had and thrashed.
I think if I can get to 90 in third at about 6300-6400 I will be doing well - overall I will settle for 135-140 in light of the 6th gear. I will post the results early next week.

Yep the engine is very smooth. Its quite easy to exceed the speed limit without even realising, especially on down hill slip roads!

I think the book figure for the signum (and vec estate which ive got) is 135, but you can normally get more than the quoted figure.

Look forward to seeing your results with the 6 speed

I had a go the runway today and found that I had to go to 4th gear to get to 90. ??? I have a 6 speed box - is this right or will it rev even higher without blowing up!!
I do not think I am doing this right if you get up 90 in 3rd - I would like to make sure I am ok for the weekend.

it literally just makes it to 90 before I have to change, I suppose with only 5 gears each gear will be "longer"

These engines have limiters- rev to the red line-if you go tooooo far it will ping off the limiter! Multivalve engines are made to be driven with high revs- power really starts at 4000rpm. A diesel's powerband is a lot lower down so really you can progress faster with lower revs!

Don't worry about the rev counter!

Cherrs J13hdb - It feels like I need to learn to drive again after so long in a diesel. Only just getting used to really pushing revs - which I never had to do in a diesel as it all happend at the low end.
I have looked at the video of the speedo - and checked the revs. Your point about 4000rpm is well taken - I think I may have moved up a little to early - I will give it some umph next this afternoon. I hope the limiter really does 'ping' back as I have never had that happen as I have never pushed it that far. Got to go now and push the beast.

Well - Got it to 121, and then ran out of bottle. Still overall well pleased. Yes it loves to rev. It was really hard driving so so slow slow on the way back.
    Thanks.
