    confused Dual mass flywheel change?

    Howdy!

Has anyone replaced a dual mass flywheel? Is it a nightmare to do?

I've got a 55 plate 1.9 CDTi 150 Elite, with 99,000 miles on the clock(!)

I'm wandering if mine could be on its way out as when i start the car when she's been sat about for a couple of days, i get a very faint irregular 'plinking' noise from the gearstick / gearbox / flywheel area when sat in the drivers seat. When i press the clutch pedel in, it goes.

    Ideas?

    Cheers,
    Nev

Definately sounds like the DMF. Mine does it more so when the outside temps are below 3 Deg & it has stood overnight..

As for the changing of, I have not done one, But it should really be no different in procedure than changing a normal Solid flywheel.
There are a couple of users on here that have done it ..

    Ah cr*p!

I guessed parts would be a bit pricy. I'm going to have a look at doing it myself though....looks like the best and easiest way is to get the car right up on axle stands and try to drop the 'box from underneath. I belive the whole front end is on some sort of sub-frame? I've not yet looked so not sure just guessing.. ...if I can get a Rover 220 'box out and on the bench in 20 mins, i'm damn sure this bu**er isn't going to beat me!

If and when I get the balls to do it, i'll take phots etc and make up some sort of sticky, i guess it could a usefull bit of info in time as more fail.

Anywho...that's the plan, will let you all know when I take the plunge!!

    Cheers,
    Nev.

No way! Is there a kit available to change it to stand style flywheel and clutch assembly? I'm sure there is one available for the Mondeo that use the same sort of thing.

Not proving to be too reliable eh?!
