    Thumbs up Rear brakes

    My wife took the car out today and heard a noise coming from the rear of the car ,to cut a long story short one of the brake pads had worn down to the metal backing that was the one attached to the brake calliper piston and the one on the other side of the brake disc had about a 1/4 inch left.I rang vx they quoted £26-90 per set also asked about them changing the pads and was quoted £150 all in ,Robbing beggers .Went to halfrauds pads £25-49 piston rewind tool £19-99 adaptor i bought from elswear £7-50 had toget an adaptor thats for a renault modus no 4059 because the pins on the vx one were too far apart no4057 got the job done 25mins per side

    Yes as you say its great when you can do the jobs but its a bit rough on the old knees at my age i was pleased when i had finnished because i was done for.

    Hope you sorted the sticking caliper mate or you could find yourself doing it all again sooner than later as they should be worn at the same rate.

    Yes i know what you mean mate but it was the one that was attached to the piston that was worn down there was plenty of free movement on the piston so hopefully it wont happen again

    I did check on the how 2 section to make sure it was no differant to other cars ive done

    I made a rewind tool when I did mine, basically a big diameter bolt and welded 2 pins on, using a spanner on the flat of the bolt head worked a treat, whilst applying pressure with a 'G' clamp.

    Making one was quicker / easier and certainly cheaper than finding one in a factors and buying it. Also, didn't see the point in buying one as they lasted to about 67K and I don't think I will have this car long enough to have to change them again.
